HISTORY
1967
Cales de Pachs S.A. was founded on October 9, 1967. The Grané family had been dedicated to the lime sector since the 1920s, and in 1967 they bought an old factory located in the town of Pacs del Penedès to advance in the industrial production of lime. Later, the company moved to the Sant Jaume mountain where the company's facilities are currently located.
In 1971, a new rotary kiln with heat exchanger and liquid fuel was inaugurated, the first of its kind in Spain. Thanks to this new technology, a significant increase in quality and greater cost savings are achieved.1971
In the middle of an energy crisis, Cales de Pachs decided to change the type of fuel used for lime production and opted for the use of micronized coal, making the coal plant operational on August 23, 1982.1982
In 1995, a new double tank kiln came into operation, using the regeneration system for heat recovery, with a more advanced lime firing process, computerized self-control and energy saving, which ensures homogeneity of the product and maximum quality. It is considered the best technique available.1995
Cales de Pachs enters the Portuguese lime market, with the acquisition of 50% of the shares of the company Microlime. With the participation of the Portuguese subsidiary, production capacity increases to 150.000 tonnes/year. In 2005, another double-tank regenerative kiln was also launched, similar to the one launched in 1995, to calcinate smaller stones, allowing better use of the raw material.2004-2005
In 2007, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions, a second plant was created to process and mix biomass with traditional fuel.2007
More than a decade after entering the Portuguese market, Cales de Pachs purchased 100% of the shares of Microlime and built a new factory for the subsidiary in Fátima (Portugal). The new facilities allow the company to increase its production capacity to 250.000 tonnes/year.2017-2019
